    The Official 2008 Landerman Family Reunion Thread

    Hi everyone, just trying to do my part as webmaster before it gets too late here. I'm creating this thread so we can share details and ideas for the upcoming reuinion in Joliet on June 28th. Here's a copy and paste of the latest details I got from Uncle Joe:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Marching to the reunion (sent 3/7/2008)

    Pretty corny I know. This is to update everyone.  We have a place reserved in Joliet for the reunion picnic.  Some of us are still working on the details for the food (thanks Fred).  It looks like we will be doing a combination of providing the meats and having everyone else pitch in with side dishes.  Since most of us will be traveling to Chicago and will not have the benefit of the use of kitchens, Dominic’s (a grocery store chain) will probably be the best bet.  In the mean time, there are several good choices of motels that are close to the exit.  We will send a list of possibilities for everyone by the end of March.  I am still looking for any suggestions for activities at the reunion itself.  I put out the suggestions for a- picture swap (bring plenty of copies of labeled pictures to share with each other), b- recipe swap (bring plenty of copies of some of your unique and favorite recipes), c- story telling session (these may range in their validity and certainly give pause to any in-laws as to the gene pool in which they have chosen to swim), and d- genealogy swap (bring the latest information that you have for family history so that all may catch up).

    This is a commercial announcement.  If you enjoy visiting the Landerman Family website, it does cost money to maintain.  Please send your check or money order to Nate Landerman so that we can continue to have such a valuable tool.  Uh, Nate, can you accept American Express?

    I hope that most of you can make it.  Chicago is pretty central to most of us and travel is fairly easy.  We never know how long we have on this earth with each other, so we need to do a better job at being close to and supporting one another.  Please try.

    Uncle Joe

    Re: The Official 2008 Landerman Family Reunion Thread

    Just got this update on hotels from Uncle Fred:

    Hey Family;

    Helen reminded me that I hadn't made any recommendations regarding hotels or motels. The ones I would recommend are considered North Joliet by The Louis Joliet Mall at I-55 and Rte 30. Acouple places I wouldn't recommend are any on McDonough Ave. or South Larkin Ave. By the Mall there are 10 or 12 motels and about 6 or 7 restaurants plus adequate shopping if you forgot something. There are also a couple of nice hotels down on Rte 6 by the Harrah's Casino.

    Looking forward to seeing you all,

    Fred

    Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks- I will be arriving Thursday noon, but must leave early (Saturday morning) in order to return to work at Argosy University that day. Be safe!

    Re: The Official 2008 Landerman Family Reunion Thread

    Ghost Posting for Uncle Fred again:

    In order to view the location of Hammel Woods in Joliet (and have an idea where to go) please log on to www.fpdwc.org and click on sites. scroll down until you find Hammel Woods and then click that. There at the top of the page you will find two maps one of the entire Will County area and one specifically for Hammel Woods.
    Hope this helps.

    Re: The Official 2008 Landerman Family Reunion Thread

    Hi there;

    Uncle Fred here. For those of you that I don't have e-mail addresses for, my wife and I are extending an invitation for you to come to our house and avail yourselves to our kitchen. We know that dining in restaurants can be expensive (and a hassle if you have small children). Please give us a warning if you plan on being here so we can stock up on green eggs and ham. You do NOT have to bring your own coffee, unless you are in love with Starbuck's.

    12 days and counting

    Re: The Official 2008 Landerman Family Reunion Thread

    Uncle Fred again;

    I saw a post from Running Mom indicating that she was planning on attending the reunion. Unfortinately, I have no clue who that person is and would appreciate an e-mail to f.landerman@sbcglobal.net to let me know who and how many. Thanks.

    Re: The Official 2008 Landerman Family Reunion Thread

    Uncle Fred here;

    The 2008 Landerman Family Reunion was a success and I believe evryone had a good time. The discussion is now when to have the next reunion and where. Paul has thrown his hat in the ring to host the next event either in 2009 or 2010.

    Jim Landerman has also suggested that the next reunion be held in Salt Lake City. I didn't hear if it was to be in 2010 or next year.

    Anyone else wishing to post an opinion and/or comment please do so here.

    Re: The Official 2008 Landerman Family Reunion Thread

    I thought the reunion was great, except for that old guy barking orders at everyone. Who invited him anyway?

    All kidding aside, it was great to see everyone and I look forward to doing it again soon. Many thanks to everyone who contributed, and especially to Uncle Fred and Aunt Sue!
