How To Upload Photos

Posting pictures to your photo gallery is probably a lot easier than you think, but some aspects of the process can be a bit confusing. This tutorial is designed to be a complete step-by-step guide - If I've missed anything or got something wrong, please let me know.

1. Sign in to Landerman.org. Click the link in the upper right-hand corner of the page that says sign in (just below the blue navigation bar).

2. Navigate to the Photos section. From the home page, you can click the large button in the middle of the page that says Photos, or the Photos tab in the blue navigation bar from any page of the site.

3. Find your Photo Gallery. On the Photos page, you will see a listing of user names. Some will have pictures below them, others haven't been added to yet. Find your user name in the list (you may have to click the show all link at the bottom of the gallery list).

4. You should now be on your Photo Gallery page. If you have added photos or albums already, you will see them on this page. If not, you will see a message that says No Records Found. This is normal.

5. Add a picture. On the left hand side of the screen, you will see a blue box with the header Common Tasks. The first link beneath the header should say add picture. Click on that link.

6. New Photo page. You should be on a data entry page titled New Photo. The first text box, titled Photo To Upload has a button to the right that says Add. Click that button.

7. Name your photo. You will see two text boxes. The first is labled Friendly Name/Description. Enter a name for your picture that identifies it colloquially (e.g. "Mom's New Car"). You will be able to add an expaded description later.

8. Upload your photo. The text box below Friendly Name/Description is labled Upload Photo. To the right of that box is a button that says Browse. Click this button, and a Windows Explorer Choose File dialogue box will pop up. Use this box to find the image file on your computer that you want to upload. Double-click on the file name (or single-click to select, then click Open). The file path and name will now be in the Upload Photo text box. Click the Upload button.

9. Enter a Title and Description. The title can be the same as the name you gave earlier, or anything else you want. Make sure your description describes the photo well.

10. Save your photo. Click the Save button, and your photo is now added to your Photo Gallery for others to see!

Aggregated News (Roller)

I've just added in a headline feed from BBC, a feed of Google Blog Search results for "Landerman", and a Google News result feed for news stories/press releases containing "Landerman".

Let me know if you find this useful... I happen to think it's kind of interesting to see where the name pops up.

Site Error Updates

I noticed today that the site went down - If you came by earlier and saw an error page, I know what the problem is and am working on resolving it. Basically, the CommunityServer application that I'm using as the framework for the site has a bug in it - this sort of thing is to be expected, as it is still in Beta.

I'm told that the bug has been fixed in the latest release, but I don't have time to upgrade right now. In the meantime, I have found a way to temporarily fix the issue once it shows up again, but you'll still see this problem now and again.

Thank you for your patience as I try to work through these issues.

Friends and family, the deployment of the new site is almost complete. I'm just having a few difficulties getting some files pushed out to the server, but within a few hours we should be ready to go. I hope you enjoy the new features of the site, because it took a while to pull everything together.
